Passiflora Press was started in 2014 by Thomas Avery Garran when he decided to self-publish his second book Western Herbs in Chinese Medicine: Methodology & Materia Medica. Later the journal South Facing was started but due to the demands of his studies and translation work that was put on the back burner. Thomas earned his PhD in Chinese herbal medicine from the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences in Beijing, China and the translation of Growing Chinese Herbs: Daodi Practices for Growing and Processing Chinese Herbs was published in late 2019. His current project is Duiyao: An Annotated version of the Qing Dynasty Classic De Pei Bencao, which he hopes to complete by the spring of 2021.
We are currently interested in connecting with those who are interested in reviving South Facing as a way to further the cause of bringing authentic information about medicinal plants to as many people as possible. All the issues previously published are available free here.
Finally, I want to encourage those who are interested in purchasing any of our books or those from other publishers to purchase them directly from the press or from small family run businesses. Purchasing your books from large online sellers hurts everyone under them.
